This scholarship supports students commencing second year of the Master of Teaching as a means of recognising and rewarding excellent academic achievement despite difficult circumstances.
The scholarship is named in memory of the late Olive Battersby, who worked for the University from 1948 until 1987. Her roles included that of assistant to a former Dean of Education, tutor, and librarian in the former faculty of Education for 14 years. She received a Fulbright Award in 1952.
Value: Up to $10,500. Paid in two installments in April and September following census.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you need to be:
- an Australian citizen or a permanent resident
- enrolled in a full-time load of the second year of the Master of Teaching in 2025 for the full year
- experiencing financial disadvantage
Previous recipients of this award and students completing their final 50 points of study in the Early Childhood or Secondary streams are not eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria
- eligible applicants will be assessed on the grounds of academic merit and financial disadvantage
- academic merit will take into account first-year results in the Master of Teaching
- financial disadvantage will be determined by the results of the Student Financial Assessment Form
